In a small business course that I took, I realized that there were different kinds of businesses that existed. One of them was buying a franchise.

A franchise business opportunity is great for the person who wants to own a business, but doesn't want to start out with a business that is completely new. A small business franchise offers great support from owners and the overall CEO of the organization. A top franchise opportunity has an excellent program in educating the future owner of the franchise. They may even offer personal franchise consulting. McDonalds is a great example of a top franchise opportunity because they offer education to their future and current owners.

The downside to buying a franchise is that you have to pay royalties to those who are above you. This aspect of buying a franchise may take a huge part of your profits and leave you with much less than you anticipated. Another negative aspect to buying a franchise is that you may have to adhere to strict rules within an already established rule book on how to handle your business. These strict rules may have to do with training employees, reputation, marketing, etc.

Buying a franchise may leave you without the independence of having your own small business; however, it will give you more security in owning a business.
